Outdoor clerks work for solicitors, carrying
out a range of duties away from the solicitor's office, such as
assisting counsel at court as a solicitor's representative,
attending at a case conference with client and counsel, and filing
documents at court.
Experienced solicitors' clerks may be
given work in the solicitor's office managing their own caseload of
files in criminal, immigration, family or a variety of civil
matters.
Barristers' clerks manage counsel's practice;
produce fees notes, and liase with the instructing
solicitor.
